Tuesday’s Tails: Featuring Pretzel – An Adoptable Dachshund

Today’s Featured Adoptable Dog is Pretzel

Pretzel is a smooth-haired red Dachshund that has been with
Animal Rescue Foundation for quite a while now.
He is estimated to be nine years old,
but he certainly doesn’t look it.

Pretzel - Adoptable Dachshund

Do I look like a senior to you?
Not a gray hair in sight!

Pretzel’s PetFinder page says that he is a sweet and friendly guy,
but is lacking much other information.
I do know that he has been waiting for adoption for quite some time
because he has been appearing in my searches
for adoptable Dachshunds for what seems like months.
Perhaps he is getting passed over due to his age, which always makes me sad.
Let’s try to help Pretzel find a forever home soon!

I’m quite handsome, don’t you think?

    Too cute and shared!

Oh my goodness, he most certainly doesn’t look like a senior and he is so very handsome. I sure hope a forever home is on the way.

He looks like such a sweet fellow! I hope he doesn’t have to wait much longer. I feel especially bad for senior dogs in kennels.

He’s a cutie! I hope he finds a home soon. A great project would be a national non-profit focused only on finding potential homes for senior dogs. I was helping a friend find a home for a foster and this older gentleman contacted me interested in the dog. He walked 7 miles a day and was looking for a dog to join him. Other than his walks he and his wife were pretty laid back at home most days. My friend’s foster was a very high energy younger dog but I suggested he find a senior dog that was still in good shape and could keep up with his walks but that wouldn’t be begging him and his wife for attention and play all day and night. He thought that was a great idea and I hope they found one. Keeping my fingers crossed for Pretzel!

Yeah, there are a few local/regional organizations dedicated to senior dog rescue/rehoming, but no national ones that I know of. The first one I think of off the top of my head is Muttville.org They are based in San Francisco… I’m not certain if they only operate there or if their reach extends further. Definitely something to look into! I could totally get behind a national organization dedicated to the rescue of senior dogs.
And yes, that was very smart of you to point that man in the direction of getting a still-active senior dog instead of a high-energy younger dog. (That was my worry when finding a home for Gracie… she is young and high energy… and needs someone who wants to be active all the time; I hope the new adoptive family is active enough for her.)
