Lost Dog on My Doorstep: Part Yay! (Part 5)

This post is a continuation of the Lost Dog on My Doorstep series.  Previous posts can be found HERE.

In Part 4, Gracie was finally getting to leave boarding and go home with her foster parents.  Her foster mom was going to be picking her up Monday afternoon, and needless to say, I was anxious to get an update about how things went on her first night at her foster home.

Why be anxious?  Well, on Monday morning I got the news that Gracie had torn up the isolation room at the vet.  Like really torn it up, lol.  Okay, I shouldn’t lol.  It’s not funny.  There was no word on whether we would be receiving a bill for the damages.

Well, poor girl… after 20 days in boarding, she was going NUTS.  I would’ve been too.  This was vet boarding, not fun doggy daycare/dog hotel kind of boarding.

So yeah, I was worried.  I was afraid I’d be getting a call from the foster mom saying, “Look, Gracie’s really sweet and we like her, but she’s gotta go.  She’s already torn up our ____, our ____, and our ____.  She’s just too much for us to handle.”  Or something along those lines.  I was just fearing disaster.

But Tuesday evening, I got a text with a couple photos and a short but sweet message:

“She’s doing great.”

These photos make my heart happy:

Look at that happy face and wagging tail!

Gracie at Foster Home

I can tell she’s been playing 🙂

I messaged a little with the foster mom, and asked her how Gracie was getting along with their other dogs.  She said the first night was a little “My momma!” (in other words, who’s this strange dog and why is she trying to horn in on MY momma’s lovins’?)  But by Tuesday, they were playing and doing zoomies around the house.  *big smile*

So remember in Part 4 where I said that I secretly hoped that the foster parents would decide to keep her?  Well, I admit to really hoping that now.

Gracie will be shown for adoption at PetCo this coming Saturday, and there is already a couple that are planning to come meet her.  They are interested in her based on the fact that she has Rhodesian Ridgeback in her mix.  I’m not sure they know what they might be getting into, but we’ll see.  She’s young and full of energy; she will need a lot of exercise and stimulation, as well as some good training.  I think anyone who is interested in her needs to read the Temperament and Exercise sections of this page, and be honest with themselves about whether they can manage that or not; because those sections describe Gracie to a tee.

So, that’s the gist of where we are now.  She’s doing well in the foster home, and is already generating adoption interest!  Woohoo!  Best news I’ve had in a while, and one of the first reasons I’ve smiled a sincere smile in months.  You’re on your way Gracie!

Stay tuned for the next Gracie update!

  1. Well other than causing havoc at the Vet’s, that is such GREAT news! Gracie only wants to be loved with a family to call her own. We’re rooting for ya!

Thanks guys! We’re rooting for her! We tried very hard to find her original family, but no luck. I don’t know if they just weren’t looking for her or what. But she was not spayed and running stray (which would only lead to more homeless dogs), and we just wanted to do better for her than calling animal control. Our city shelter is overwhelmed with intakes and she probably wouldn’t have had much of chance there. All of our local no-kill shelters and rescues were too full to take her, so if we wanted to see her with a happy family, it was on us. So we’ve been doing the best we can to rehome her.

Thanks for the update! She’s totally adorable! I hope someone snatches her up soon!

    • Pam says:

She IS totally adorable. We kind of thought she was part pibble and part Rhodesian Ridgeback… but the vet said probably Boxer/Rhodesian Ridgeback. Whatever, she’s a big cutie either way. Sure you don’t want a girlfriend for Titan? 😉

  3. Ann Staub says:

Yay for Gracie! She does look very happy in her foster home!

    • Pam says:

She totally does. Really kinda wish she could stay there, but hopefully whatever is meant to be is what will happen. I just want her to be happy.

  4. emma says:

That’s wonderful! I bet she is just thrilled to be in a home and out of the kennel. Hope the next post is about her being adopted!

    • Pam says:

I sure hope so, and soon! I probably won’t do any more update posts until she is adopted, unless something unforeseen or interesting happens.

  5. Hooray! (well, all except the tearing up the room part…) That little happy face of hers is SO sweet! And who could resist that funny little mohawk down her back. Hope the couple is interested in her! Will send good thoughts her way she gets a furever home this weekend!!

    • Pam says:

I know! I’m pretty happy with the way everything is going now. It was rough there for a while. She really is SO sweet… anyone would be lucky to have her – as long as they have the energy for her :). Even though we’ve basically done everything else, including finding the foster, the rescue we’re working with is showing her for adoption and will be the ones to handle the adoption process – and I’m good with that. I don’t want to have to screen people and say yes or no or whatever. But I definitely want to know where she goes, who she goes to, and ideally, I’d like some follow-up on how she’s doing in her new home. If she doesn’t get adopted this weekend, I’m hoping she at least has some more interest!

    What a happy face!!

  7. Love Part Yay! 🙂 Hope Gracie finds a good home soon – with the foster family or otherwise. She’s adorable. Vet boarding is really hard on a dog, but the photos look like she just needed some freedom! Hoping for even better news in your next post about her!

    • Pam says:

Yeah, she really just needed out of there. Not only was she going absolutely stir-crazy from being cooped up, but she just loves to be around people. I know she was getting very unhappy from having very little attention/love/stimulation.
Yep, I hope my next update is about her getting adopted!

  8. I am so happy that she is with a foster who understands her. She looks happy!

    • Pam says:

Me too! We really lucked out with this foster family. And they actually stepped up on their own. Back when we were posting many “Found” ads looking for Gracie’s original owners, these folks stepped forward and offered to foster her if we couldn’t find her owners. They are awesome and we are so thankful!

  9. Dogs N Pawz says:

Yay for Gracie! Hope everything works out for her!!!!!

  10. Jodi says:

Hell I’d tear up a room too if I was in boarding!

Glad to hear that she is doing so well, fingers crossed for adoption~

  11. Donna says:

I read the posts out of order, but I’m so happy everything worked out! 🙂
